‘Is Love the Word?’ is an exciting journey through hypnotic themes, the rhythmic strength of jazz, tango, fado and musical landscapes of beautiful poetry.
The music for this album was created based on the concept of the various emotions associated with love and the contradictory and mixed feelings that it stirs in all of us. Passion; rage; longing; childhood innocence and trust are the themes that helped constructing this album. All the songs are original compositions except for adaptations of themes we thought were according to the concept of the album such as 'Motherless Child, an old gospel spiritual; Charlie Chaplin's 'Smile'; Paul Simon's '50 Ways to Leave your Lover' and Harvest, a version of an old Portuguese folk song, 'Canção da Ceifa'.
Spontaneous composition and improvisation are two very strong elements present in “Is Love the Word?”. The love we all share for theatre and spoken word are a big inspiration in our compositional work.
The theme tune music of the album is inspired on a play by Samuel Beckett: Eh Joe.

“Combining acidy Vaudeville, brooding vamps and free improv flourishes, Eh Joe have created a compelling album of unexpected twists and turns. Wonky circus grooves and tumbling New Orleans drums give way to sonorous pads and hypnotic EST - esque build ups. Eh Joe are thoroughly engaging and unpredictable.” Rory Simmons (Fringe Magnetic)
“Mila was really good” Kenny Wheeler
“Double Bass Virtuoso, Rus Pearson”
Ian Mann, The jazzman.com
A review of the band's debut release “The Eye of the Duck” had this to say about Joost: “A word for the drummer here, his playing is crisp and intelligent throughout the set, immensely powerful when required, tasteful and restrained when not.”The jazzmann.com
