Julia Biel

vocals

A distinctive singer/songwriter with an arresting voice that critics have tried to compare to a dizzying array of music's most imposing vocal talents (Billie Holiday Alison Goldfrapp, Thom Yorke, Cassandra Wilson, Rickie Lee Jones, Bjork - to name a few), Julia Biel undeniably has her own heartfelt style.  Since she burst on to the scene by winning the Perrier Vocalist of the Year Award in 2000, she went on to work as a featured artist with Polar Bear on their critically acclaimed debut album 'Dimlit' and also with Oriole's 'Song for the Sleeping', whilst also collaborating with guitarist Jonny Phillips on original songs for her own debut album.  'Not Alone' was released in June 2005 on Rokit Records to rave reviews.  Shortly after the release of the album, Julia Biel,  'the best British vocalist to emerge in an age' (The Independent), was nominated for the prestigious 'Rising Star' Award in the BBC Jazz Awards 2006.
