10th F-IRE FESTIVAL
...celebrates the creativity of a whole generation of jazz musicians, from the F-IRE Collective itself, joined by friends from near and far - with 15 acts across 10 nights. The F-IRE label also enters its 10th year, and there are no less than 5 CD releases within: [John Turville, Fly Agaric, Chambr, Chris Higginbottom, Burton Bradstock] plus 2 releases also from members of sister collective LOOP in the form of Ivo Neame Octet (on Edition) and Eyes of a Blue Dog (on Babel).
...all in all a real feast of quality, and a true panorama of London's vibrant creative jazz scene.

PROGRAMME

Fri, 19 OCT: CHAMBR & FLY AGARIC – album launches (Early Show)
Doors: 6:00pm | Music: 7:30pm - 9:00pm, £17.50

CHAMBR
'Chambr' is an acoustic ensemble combining violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar and percussion led by award winning guitarist/composer Nick Tyson. Diverse influences from jazz, downbeat, classical chamber, folk and middle-eastern traditions are explored within Tyson's delicate writing to produce an exciting new voice for British music.

"Tyson's compositional textures have an expansive, cinematic and orchestral quality that fully immerse the listener" - Louis Archer (Jazzwise)

FLY AGARIC - album launch
A young band brought together by a common taste for the profound and the ridiculous, Fly Agaric take the starting point of the sax quartet as a means for playfully exploring diverse genres from African Folk to cinematic soundscapes, Klezmer and even Punk Rock.

EYES OF A BLUE DOG – album launch
Eyes of a Blue Dog is a brand new collaboration between Jamie Cullum's regular trumpeter, Rory Simmons, drummer / producer Terje Evensen, and singer Elisabeth Nygård-Pearson. Together they create strong electronic landscapes, coloured with acoustic textures in deep and smouldering moods. They float across different grooves and time signatures, soaring strongly, as they mix in abstract and hypnotic lyrics and melodies.

"Simmons' brassy trumpet dances among the ensemble" - MOJO

Sat, 20 OCT: ROLLER TRIO & THE BEGUILERS (Early Show)
Doors: 6:00pm | Music: 7:30pm - 9:00pm, £17.50

ROLLER TRIO
'2012 Mercury Prize 'Album of the Year' and 2011 Peter Whittingham Jazz Award winner Roller Trio is the latest band to explode out of the fertile Leeds music scene where experimental jazz rubs shoulders with DIY alt rock and electronica. Their music is a fresh, visceral stew of conventional and experimental sounds that features stonking riffs, thrashy noise, evocative songs and electronic soundscapes.

"Dark, menacing, bass heavy - the new sound of UK jazzzzzzz!" Gilles Peterson BBC 6 Music

THE BEGUILERS
The Beguilers brings together tender, mellifluous singing and sensitively crafted song-writing whose elements are woven into the narratives of poems by Blake, Shakespeare, Joyce, Clare and others, delicately bringing their images and metaphors to life with finely wrought harmonies and luscious melodies. Composed by Fred Thomas for singer Ellie Rose and clarinetist Dave Shulman, these songs invite your imagination to be at once moved, released and beguiled.

"The Beguilers create a mellifluous, graceful sound that entirely justifies their band name. Rose has a touching, pure, sweet voice, well suited to the affecting melodies Thomas writes, and Shulman provides just the right amount of textural and tonal variety." – Chris Parker (London Jazz)

Doors: 7:00pm | Music: 8:30pm, £15

Emily Saunders presents her forthcoming CD, Outsiders Insiders, following her critically acclaimed debut, Cotton Skies. Her rich dark grooves and warm, enveloping voice bring the audience once again to her alluring soundscape with Brazilian-tinged influences from Hermeto Pascoal and Chick Corea's Return to Forever. Balancing her effortless instrumental voice, rich haunting tone are her own inventive compositions and two arrangements of driving Hermeto tunes.

"The word is out about Emily Saunders...musicality, poise and ingenuity... Saunders is the real deal... a jazz vocalist with a big future... " (4 stars) The Guardian, John Fordham
