Finn Peters [flute, alto saxophone]

Tom Herbert [bass]
Tom Skinner [drums]
Over recent years, this young flautist/saxophonist/producer has been successfully embracing the West London Broken Beat club scene, jazz, classical and various world musics. Finn's 2006 release Su-Ling on Babel demonstrates how he has matured as a jazz composer and musician, soaking up the experience he has gained from a range of musical cultures and honing the complexity of these forms into an accessible acoustic jazz format. A keen interest in ethnomusicology, specifically centred on Latin and African music (The "Su-ling" of the title refers to a flute used in Javanese music) also permeates the grooves. Finn's quintet brings together kindred spirits with similar contemporary popular sub-cultural, improvisation and global music influences.

BBC Jazz Awards: Best line-up
Album of the year BBC Radio 1: Gilles Peterson Worldwide
"The scope of stylistic influences is broad, and his arrangements are nuanced to suggest a considerably larger line-up than a quintet. At its most immediate, the album is reminiscent of the orchestrated tracks on Wayne Shorter's Alegria (Verve, 2003). Gorgeous saxophone and flute playing, dancing Brazilian, West African and Caribbean rhythms, foregrounded drums and percussion, and subtle overdubbing, post-production and synth colouring combine to create this rich and lyrical world jazz."
